Psalms chapter 1: What God wants us to do.

Psamls 1:1-6

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

² But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
⁴ The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
⁵ Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
⁶ For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.


God's word: Psalms 1:1-2

 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

In this chapter, God wants his sons and daughters to walk, stand and sit not with the ungodly and sinners. God is giving us a warning because He knew the moment we put this things in to actions we'll experience great pressure and temptations.It's like we're in a  trap. God wants us to let ourselves far from evil doers because there is a tendency for us to be influenced and then commit sin. We are still humans and we are still living here on earth were Satan is. The moment you step in a place were believers and non-believers co-exist, we sons and daughters of God must be careful and watchful on the things we say, move and act. It is more safe go make some distance because we don't know when Satan will going to attack. It doesn't mean that we should not make friends with them but just to keep a distance with them, do not copy their wrong doings and never accept their evil advices. 


Instead of doing it, why do things that can make God smile at you. In verse 2, Do always follow God's command and His laws. Always meditate in His words day and night. God will give the best for His sons and daughters if we always make Him happy. It's like a father-child relationship. When a child always makes his father angry and just do foolishness then it will be so difficult for the child to ask anything from his father but if the child always do good and make his father smile at him then father will do anything and will give the best whatever his child asks.

If we do sin everyday, it will make our spiritual strength become weak or worst weaker than ever. God compares believers who still doing ungodly and evil things to chaffs. Chaffs are weak and easy to bent and fall to the ground. You may still be holding to the ground (word of God) but your faith is not that strong to overcome temptations which results to commit sin. When a person doesn't fully trust God, that person lacks of prayers, reading the word of God which is the bible, not always following God's commands and having a lesser time for praising and worshiping God. Lacking of this things will result to a weaker spirit. Less of prayers, words of God, following God's commands and praise and worship will result to weaker spirit and with weaker spirit, you'll be easilly be tempted and fall down.

For those sons and daughters of God who do follow God's commands and meditate God's word day and night, God compare them to a tree planted by the river. Its roots holds the ground (word of God) with great strength  and always connected to the water (God's presence) supply that gives life to it which results to have beautiful leaves and will bring fruits in his season. This kind of tree is strong and will not be easily to bent and fall down. It can conquer storms, because it has a strong foundation.

Things to do:

We should not walk, stand and sit with the ungodly and sinners.

Follow God's commandments and laws

Meditate God's word day and night

God loves us. He doesn't want us to go hell that's why He is always giving us advices. It's just us know doesn't want to hear His voice.

Remember:

 Reading the bible = listening to God

 Praying = talking to God

Relationship is important to God. God wants you to be close to Him and have an intimacy with Him.

Why should I read and study the book of Psalms?

The Book of Psalms in the bible was written by David inspired by the Holy Spirit of God. In his life, David experienced many different situations and challenges in life, from a poor shepherd boy becoming a king. He even killed a bear and Goliath the strongest soldier of that time when he’s still a young boy. King Saul tried to kill him because of jealousy. Many things happened in David’s life when he’s still a young boy until he became a king until he passed away.

Questions:

1.)    What is in David that motivates and encourages him not to be afraid to anything and anyone?

2.)    If you are David, would you fight a giant man like Goliath with just your sling as your weapon?

If you can answer number 1 question then you must understand and acknowledge God and how great and powerful He is. But, in number 2 question, few people would still be in a doubt on saying “yes” in this question. Why? it is because they can still feel the absence of God’s presence in their life. Is there a situation where God’s presence is not present in our life? The answer is “Yes”.

In Romans 6:23

-          For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.

Death means separation from God.

Without God we are nothing.

Yes, you can still live in this world with all your vices, sexual desires and the eager for money and power to the extent of killing people just to achieve your dreams. But I’ll tell you, you will never have eternal life and worst you’ll be put to hell, literally in hell for you to experience pain for eternity.

David was brave at that time even if his weapon is just a sling compared to Goliath with armor and a sword. He was sure that he can kill and defeat Goliath because he knew that God is in his side and fighting with Him. This is most forgotten fact people always forget. I’ll tell you this, God is in you and He is always living in you. So don’t be afraid in problems and struggles in life, with God nothing is impossible. All things are possible in God.

Let us offer our lives as a living sacrifice. Do you know that your body is now a temple for God? Yes, your body now is a temple of god. And it should be always clean and worthy for God’s holy presence to inhabit in it.

In order for us to have God’s presence every day, we should keep ourselves holy and worthy. We should avoid making and having sins and we should always pray, meditate God’s words day and night, follow His commands and laws and we should always praise and worship God.

This is the reason we should study the book of Psalms. Through God’s word for us, we should learn how to live a better Christian life and have intimacy with God. Psalms also teaches us how to maintain and handle things in accordance to God’s will. But we should pray first every time we should study the bible and ask God the things we wants us to know and not the things we want to hear. Always ask God for anything and everything.
